Everybody loves a bargain – but for older people, looking after the pennies is even more important. Older people are often on a fixed income, whether that’s State Pension, private pension, or working reduced hours. Thankfully, there are plenty of senior discounts out there.
Best Dining Discounts for Older People
Lots of chain restaurants offer discounts to older diners. Plenty of others have a senior menu with reduced prices and smaller portion sizes. However, if your favourite eatery isn’t on our list, there’s nothing to stop you from asking if they offer a concession for older people. You’ve got nothing to lose!
If you dine out even semi-regularly, getting a Tastecard is a no brainer. These aren’t exclusively for seniors, however, they are definitely worth having. The Tastecard offers 50% off food or 2 for 1 meals at more than 6,000 restaurants across the UK. Both well-known chains and independent restaurants have exclusive offers with Tastecard. Cardholders can also get 50% off pizza delivery, 33% off cinema tickets, and up to 50% off loads of great days out. You can sign up for a free 30-day trial or, for the best value, choose an annual membership for £39.99.
Many of the Greene King pubs across the country offer a ‘Seniors Deal’. This offer runs all day Monday to Friday and allows the over 60s a choice of two courses for £4.99. If you fancy all three courses, it’s only an extra £1. Give your local Greene King pub a call to see if they have this offer or click here to check online.
3. Hungry Horse
National chain Hungry Horse used to offer a ‘Golden Years’ menu, offering elderly diners a discount on select dishes. However, this section of the menu has lately been removed. It is worth bearing in mind that most of the Golden Years dishes are still available on the main menu, and many are available on their standard 2 for 1 deal.
3. Local Pubs/Restaurants
Many pubs and country dining houses offering pensioner lunches on certain days of the week, or afternoon teas with discounted rates if you’re a certain age.
You can find out if these offers stand by calling up or checking their websites or asking around your local area. Often such places have boards outside offering these deals.
4. The Big Chains
If you’re looking for discounts at bigger brand restaurants then look no further. Burger King, Papa John’s and Subway are all known for offering discounts for the seniors. Nando’s recently ran a 50% off deal for older diners, hoping to bring the older and younger generations back together after a long lockdown.
Sometimes this is only at participating restaurants, but it’s still worth asking when you order. Lots of places also run online voucher deals on websites like vouchercodes.co.uk, with savings up to 50% and other others like free desserts. It’s really easy to find these deals if specific senior deals aren’t in place.
Don’t forget that there are also various elderly benefits that you and your friends should be receiving.
